Dear reader,

in January of 2018, we started to offer weekly snapshots and monthly newsletters in order to supplement the TBE Book with additional and up-to-date information. We mostly discussed new publications covering TBE, tick-borne diseases and ticks, but there was also a congress report, discussion of a press release and a contribution dealing with so far unpublished work.

Now, we can look back on 51 snapshots and 12 newsletters which have been prepared in 2018. Analyzing the journals, it is interesting to see that there was a great diversity of journals from which articles have been selected: a total of 21 journals have been chosen. The most selected journal was Ticks and Tick-Borne Diseases (12 articles), followed by Eurosurveillance and Emerging Infectious Diseases (4 articles each), and then PLoS ONE, Vaccine and Vector Borne and Zoonotic Diseases (3 articles each). The snapshots and newsletters roughly covered four topics:

  1. TBE and flavivirus epidemiology (32 articles)
  2. Clinical picture of TBE, treatment, immunology and diagnostics (14 articles)
  3. TBE vaccines, clinical studies, awareness (9 articles)
  4. Biology of ticks (7 articles)

I hope that the snapshots and contributions met your expectations and were useful for you. We are going to continue next year to discuss current publications about TBE, tick-borne diseases and ticks.

You are cordially invited to contribute with your own snapshot or newsletter, whenever you get to know a publication which you think is worth to be discussed, (also published in a regional journal and/or in a non-widely used language) or when you have identified a lecture or a poster presented on a congress or a doctoral or master’s thesis you would like to share with your colleagues.

Best regards
Dr. Michael Bröker
