Self-reported tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) vaccination coverage in Europe: Results from a cross-sectional study.
Ticks Tick Borne Dis. 2018, in press

A survey in various European countries resulted in a mixed appearance with regard to perception and knowledge about TBE and vaccination coverage across Europe. Awareness of TBE is high in Baltic countries and Czech Republic, but low e.g. in Germany and Finland. The vaccine uptake in Germany is low (31%) and Finland (44%) and extremely low in Poland (3%), while it is much higher in Austria (85%). Even within a given country great differences were found, e.g. 40% in Bavaria (highly TBE endemic German state), but only 10% in Bremen, a Northern German non-risk TBE state. In general, compliance for the primary vaccination schedule is low and even worse for booster immunizations. Awareness and knowledge about TBE and the importance of TBE vaccination have to be improved in most of the European countries.
