The United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) have provided a framework for accelerating the decline of infectious diseases, backed by a massive injection of foreign investment in low-income countries. The MDG era draws to a close in 2015, and a new set of goals will focus on poverty reduction and sustainable development.
