The Paraguayan Ministry of Health, through their Expanded Programme on Immunization and the Eighteenth Health Region, vaccinated the entire population in and around Asuncion Market No. 4 against diphtheria. According to ministry officials, there is no distinction in age for this vaccination, children and adults must be vaccinated.

There will be 13 vaccination brigades deployed in and around Market No. 4. The mobile teams will visit all the market stalls to ensure the vaccination of workers, while fixed position teams will be based in the nursery and primary schools in the area as well as the Bonanza, Florida and Santo Domingo galleries.

The vaccination strategy to be implemented comprises: to the north, Pettirossi Avenue on the south, Avenida Ana Diaz west, Avenida Peru and east Yguape Avenue. This activity will include two brigades of the Municipal Polyclinic, two brigades of the Health Post Sacred Heart of Jesus, EPI supervisors, coordinators and six Municipal Market watchdogs.

The mass vaccination campaign has been launched due to two girls, sisters living in the area, being diagnosed with diphtheria, which is a known and highly contagious disease that also poses a serious threat to the lives of all children and adults.
