Major Global Threats Ebola (Bundibugyo virus) The DRC outbreak is the world’s highest-priority acute event and is the second-largest Ebola outbreak on record. As of September 5–6, 6,625 confirmed cases and 3,177 confirmed deaths were reported across the DRC, Uganda, and France; transmission remains concentrated in six DRC provinces. Conflict, limited access to healthcare, population mobility, and incomplete contact tracing continue to impede control. The CDC assesses U.S. public risk as low. Mpox Mpox continues to produce outbreaks worldwide, disproportionately in Africa, which accounts for roughly two-thirds of reported cases.
