1. MenB vaccines show lab cross-protection against MenX—but conjugates are still the gold standard In this laboratory study, investigators evaluated whether the protein-based meningococcal B vaccines 4CMenB (Bexsero) and MenB fHbp (Trumenba) induce serum bactericidal antibodies (hSBA) against a hyperinvasive Neisseria meningitidis serogroup X clonal complex 181 strain (BF 2/97), used as the MenFive/EuNmCV 5 reference MenX strain. Adults 18–65 years from a UK phase II trial contributed paired sera before and one month after 1, 2, and 3 doses of 4CMenB (n=20), while US college students in an observational study provided sera before and one month after two MenB fHbp doses given six months apart (n=101). hSBA assays with human complement quantified geometric mean titers (GMTs), proportions with hSBA ≥4, and ≥ 4-fold rises from baseline.
