1. Epidemiology  Seasonal Trends (2024–2025): The most recent data indicates that influenza A activity peaked early in 2025, with overall acute respiratory illness at very low levels in July 2025. Most regions experienced early flu seasons dominated by influenza A strains, later showing a mix of both influenza A and B. The major burden was observed in adults over 45 for influenza-related hospitalizations and in children under five for other respiratory viruses like RSV. The number of pediatric deaths attributed to influenza in the 2024–2025 season reached a record high in the United States, highlighting the continued clinical impact.  Emergence of Avian Influenza A (H5N1):  Highly pathogenic H5N1 has had ripple effects across species and regions, with sporadic human infections reported, especially in the Americas and Southeast Asia.
