A groundbreaking nationwide study from France has sounded a sobering alarm about the long-term health consequences faced by individuals hospitalized with COVID-19, underscoring the pandemic’s enduring shadow on public health. Published in Infectious Diseases, the study tracked nearly 64,000 French residents who were hospitalized with COVID-19 between January and August 2020. Over a follow-up period of up to 30 months, researchers observed that these individuals faced a significantly higher risk of death and serious organ-related complications compared to their peers in the general population who were not hospitalized for the virus.
